Geordie Wood Blog - Two Years Old

Staten Island Ferry. New York, NY (2009)

This very morning marks the second anniversary of my first blog post and a redesign of the website which still stands today. I’ll admit to wading wearily into the blog world, but have since enjoyed every post more then the last. Largely due to the support of those who have commented and remained tuned in over the years! Though I understand this blog publishes less then others, I am proud that my content has remained 100% original and of my own authorship - which can be challenging at times.

So on this anniversary of sorts, I’d like to end by letting you conclude this post. What’s your reaction to the past couple years? What did you enjoy or wish you lived without? What would you like to see more of?

Dee, Ricky and Swizzy. Brooklyn, NY (2009)

Photographer Geordie Wood
Models Dee, Ricky and Swizzy
Production Mike Cash

Last Monday I did a spec shoot with a few friends from Staten Island. But this time around we added Dee and Ricky to the mix. These twins have been making serious moves lately. Their lego inspired accessories have been huge the past couple years having found their way in to virtually every fashion magazine, on Kanye West and MIA and on the Marc Jacobs runway. These guys are really working it so check out their site and blog on hypebeast.

If anyone out there is interested in the photographs definitely give me a shout.  It would be great to find a digital or print publication interested in distributing the work. Feel free to give my new studio number a call… (646) 484 9489.

No shoot is a successful one without some good food, here’s some behind the scenes …

new editorial for OAK

Fashion, New Work, News, Online, Photography, Website — August 19th, 2008

Photographer: Geordie Wood
Stylist: Leslie Steinberg
Model: Claudia Eve Beauchesne

Last weekend NYC stylista Leslie Steinberg, Montreal’s own Claudia Eve Beachesene and I went through a 40-hour gauntlet of shooting for OAK’s fall collection. OAK, originally of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, just opened a new store on Manhattan’s Bond Street and is truly the source for the hottest threads around.

It was a exciting shoot for a final collection of twelve images. The photos now live on OAK’s homepage, on their blog, and will soon be found in their websites editorial section.

This was one of my first full fledged fashion editorials and it proved to be very exciting and challenging. God knows I love documentary photo but there is something refreshing about the control that one has in this venue. It’s nice to have a blank canvas on which to wander, freely molding, modifying, erasing and playing with the piece. I hope to do more of this work soon.

new ‘tearsheets’ section

News, Tearsheets, Website — August 11th, 2008

Some of you may have noticed that last week I added a new section to the site called, Tearsheets. I have posted a few clippings from recent publications and will add more as I gather them.

The tear above is a special one because it was my first assignment for The FADER. Who would have thought they would send me to shoot one of my personal favorites, Collie Buddz, in the summer of his hit single ‘Come Around’. I have to give a much deserved shout out to my close friend Clayton Burke for traveling to Queens with me to back me up on this one, respek Clay.

On a side note, I just got off a long weekend shooting whats going to be a killer editorial for a little known Manhattan boutique. I am not going to say anything else for now but check back soon to see the new work.

geordiewood.com V2.0

After many months of brooding about the design and structure of my former site I decided to take the proverbial plunge into the world of web development. I will say that the jump into HTML, CSS and PHP was difficult, but I believe I came out on top. The new site features re-edited portfolios, a clean design, and my new project from Kathmandu, Nepal.

In addition to the photographs, I hope this site will house other fun features that will keep you returning for more! Hence, the blog/journal/news/ramblings page where you currently find yourself. I wish I could tell you what to expect, but I don’t even know what to expect myself. I guess we will find out together.
